Job 7 VS 17-18 NKJV
17
“What is man, that You should exalt him,
That You should set Your heart on him,
18
That You should visit him every morning,
And test him every moment?
Have you ever heard the saying, “The strongest soldiers get the hardest fight”, I believe it’s the lyrics to a song. It popped up in my mind this morning while reading Job 7.
Reading Job seven, my heart was heavy as Job spoke. There was a tone of despair and hopelessness. There was a sense of him feeling forsaken, you know, like – “ God, why me?”
Job 7: 19 -20
19
‘How long?
Will You not look away from me,
And let me alone till I swallow my saliva?
20
Have I sinned?
What have I done to You, O watcher of men?
Why have You set me as Your target,
So that I am a burden to myself’
These are questions one may ask oneself as a believer, even whilst trying to appear strong to those around us.
Suffering does that to people.
Suffering and pain come in many forms. It may not be in the form that Job went through. It may just have lasted for one day. It may even be that what you’re going through is not recognized as suffering by the masses. I’m here to tell you that your pain is valid; feel it, acknowledge it, but don’t remain in it.
So I’m going to encourage you through Job 7.
I know the end of Job’s story, but Job in Job 7 does not know the end of his story. He does not know that his story is one that will glorify God for generations to come. That his suffering had great purpose. So I’m going to step into the past and be the good friend that Job needed.
“My dear Job, I know what you’re going through must be quite hard. As an outsider looking in, you seem to be having a very hard time. This cannot be easy what you’re going through.
I’ve heard you say that you loathe your life because of what you’re going through. I’m here to tell you that, though you feel this way right now, your pain has a great purpose, and as you hold on to God, you will overcome. Many people will gain the strength to overcome difficult situations simply because you chose not to give up.
I’ve heard the ‘ why mes.’
‘Why have You set me as Your target, so that I am a burden to myself?’
I hear your cry, my friend, but haven’t you considered that you were targeted for a reason? That you could bear the heavy load, and that the result of you pushing through to the end is a great reward. You can’t see the end, my friend, but I trust that the end is bright.”
……..
Like Job, many of you are asking, “Why me?” Feeling like the burden is too heavy to carry, and simply want to throw in the towel. Job didn’t know that at the end of his story his health would be restored, his wealth would double, he would have a long life, and he would leave a legacy.
So I’m here to tell you not to throw in the towel. The same God who wrote Job’s story is writing yours, and though you may not know the fullness of the outcome, trust that the outcome will be beautiful.
As you walk in obedience to the Lord, know this: the sun will shine again, and your sorrow will end.
