When the Bible says we were given everything for life and godliness, I believe it was speaking to the WORD. There is something in the word that speaks to every situation, every challenge, every emotion, and every state of being. We were given everything we need to succeed here on earth as believers. The problem is we often times don’t understand the value of what is already in our hands.
The word being a believer’s source speaks to the fact that all we need is inside of it: strength, joy, peace, prosperity, fruitfulness, power, greatness… the list goes on. As a believer, we are created to live from a place of abundance, and I’m not just saying that I truly mean it. Emotions are fleeting, but truth will always remain truth. The word is not contingent on how we feel.
Emotion says – I feel alone – truth says – I will never leave nor forsake you, you are never alone.
Emotion says – I feel like I can’t go on, I’m down on my face – truth says – you are strong in the Lord and in the power of His might and that you shall prosper as your soul prospers.
The truths in the word are never-ending, it is our responsibility to feed on those truths. Let them nourish us, let them feed our souls.
There are certain truths of the word that I hold fast to daily, sometimes even subconsciously. One of those truths being – The joy of the Lord is my strength. I pray those words most days and it has become my reality. I’ve found that even in sadness I have not lost my joy. Even in disappointment, my joy remains. When things are not going my way, that joy does not leave me ( I’m tearing up thinking about it) -because my joy is in Him.
As I sit here writing my mind is reflecting on moments when I’m just lingering in His presence – simply undone by His overwhelming peace, love, and joy. It is as though time stands still in His presence and the worries of this world doesn’t even matter. A calm comes over me and to put into words the emotions attached to those moments is simply impossible. The truth of the word comes alive in that place, and from that place, there is a spiritual understanding of true joy that my mind at times cannot comprehend.
To come up from that place is to walk in newness, I carry that place into every life situation the world throws at me. So though my normal human emotions may reflect sadness there is a joy in my spirit that remains steadfast.
The spirit has to be fed the truth in order to feed the mind in moments of doubt, despair, and discouragement.
